The journey
Our most requested journey — eight days that carry you from the tea gardens of Munnar through the wildlife of Periyar, onto the backwaters of Kumarakom and Alleppey, and down to the golden sands of Kovalam, ending in historic Trivandrum.
Day by day
Day 1 · arrival
Arrive at Kochi and drive up into the Western Ghats to Munnar, stopping at the Valara and Cheeyappara waterfalls and roadside spice gardens along the way.
Day 2
A full day at 1,600 metres: Eravikulam National Park, home of the Nilgiri Tahr, the Tata Tea Museum, and boating at Mattupetty Dam, Kundala Lake and Echo Point.
Day 3
Descend through cardamom hills to Thekkady. Walk the spice plantations and, in the evening, catch a Kathakali performance.
Day 4
Boat safari on Periyar Lake inside the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, with options for bamboo rafting, nature walks and an elephant ride.
Day 5
Drive to the banks of Vembanad Lake. Visit the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, where migratory species flock between November and February.
Day 6
Board a traditional Kettuvallam houseboat at Alleppey and drift through the paddy fields and village life of Kuttanad. Meals are cooked on board; the night is spent on the water.
Day 7
Disembark and drive to the coast. Afternoon free across Kovalam's Samudra, Hawa and Lighthouse beaches.
Day 8 · departure
Visit Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple, the Zoo, Sree Chitra Art Gallery, Veli tourist village and Shangumugham Beach before your transfer to the airport or railway station.
