The journey
Our longest journey — nine days that move from a houseboat on the backwaters up to the 6,000-foot tea estates of Munnar, into the forests of Thekkady, and down to two full days of beach at Kovalam, with a cultural finale in Trivandrum.
Day by day
Day 1 · arrival
Arrive at Kochi and settle in. In the evening, an optional Kathakali dance performance.
Day 2
Drive to Alleppey and board your houseboat for a night cruising the backwaters.
Day 3
Disembark after breakfast and climb to Munnar, 6,000 feet up in the Western Ghats, surrounded by rolling tea estates.
Day 4
A full day in tea country — viewpoints, estates and the quiet of the high ranges.
Day 5
Wind down the hills to Thekkady, gateway to the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary.
Day 6
Periyar boat safari, spice plantations and the bazaars of Kumily.
Day 7
Drive south to the coast. Afternoon and evening free at Kovalam's beaches.
Day 8
A full day at Lighthouse Beach — swim, surf, or simply do nothing at all. Optional Ayurveda massage.
Day 9 · departure
Sightseeing in Trivandrum — Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple, the Zoo, Napier Museum and the Sree Chitra Art Gallery — before your departure transfer.
