The place
Kerala's capital moves at its own dignified pace. At its heart stands Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple — one of the world's richest and most mysterious shrines, with a deity reclining on the serpent Anantha — ringed by galleries, museums and the horse-faced gables of Travancore architecture.
The Napier Museum and Sree Chitra Art Gallery hold bronzes and Raja Ravi Varma originals; Veli village joins a lagoon to the sea; and Shangumugham Beach is where the city goes to breathe. Most of our journeys close here — deliberately.
— Temple bells mixing with the evening sea.
