The place
Kovalam is really three beaches in a row — Lighthouse, Hawa and Samudra — each a crescent of sand shelving into calm, swimmable water, backed by coconut palms and a lighthouse you can climb for the sweep of the coast.
Just sixteen kilometres from Trivandrum, it became Kerala's first beach resort and remains its most beloved: mornings for yoga and swimming, afternoons for seafood shacks, evenings for the red ball of the sun dropping into the Arabian Sea.
— Red fish, black rock, gold end of day.
